The
Sanborn Family Association is holding its Biennial gathering in Maine
this year at Fort Williams Park just south of Portland at Cape Elizabeth
on Saturday 18 August 2007 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Although you may not
be a member of the Association, you are a Sanborn and are welcome, with
your families, to join us for an informative and fun-filled day.
Fort Williams Park offers a parking area, miles of trails, numerous military
buildings of another era, awesome views of the Atlantic Ocean and the
Portland Head Light. To view the Park’s many attractions go to http://www.fortwilliams.org/.
The meeting and eating area is in the Picnic Shelter so events will take
place rain or shine. See page 35 of the Fort Williams Master Plan for
a view of the Picnic Shelter. For the Portland Head Light go to http://www.portlandheadlight.com/.
See the enclosed registration form for the schedule and other details.
Call (802) 773-7525 or email
me for any questions that are not answered in the form.]
For those who would like to extend their visit into Sunday, there are
numerous attractions in the Portland area that you might wish to visit.
There will be brochures and information available on Saturday at our gathering.
The extended Sanborn Family has a long and proud tradition in America.
The Association welcomes not only those who bear the Sanborn name but
any families (such as mine) who have Sanborn ancestors. Please share this
invitation with anyone you know that has Sanborn roots.
If, for whatever reasons, you are not able to join us this August perhaps
in two years you could join us. If you are not currently a member of the
Sanborn Family Association, please consider becoming a member and twice
a year receiving our magazine about Sanborns past and present.
Travel Information: If you are traveling by air, the Portland (ME) Airport
is 20 minutes drive to Fort Williams. If you are driving, Fort Williams
is located just south of Portland, Maine. Upon receipt of your reservation,
we will forward you a confirmation of your reservation(s) and further
information about the area and its many restaurants and points of interest.
We will also send you a map of the Portland Area which has numerous national
chain motels and other lodgings. For housing questions check www.visitportland.com
or call Visitor’s Information at (207) 772-5800. August is busy
in Portland so book your arrangements as early as possible. Shirts and
caps with the Sanborn coat of arms will be for sale before, during and
after the Reunion at $10 each.
